Trauma Intensive Treatment
At Moonstone, we offer Trauma Intensives- therapy delivered for six hours per day, for as many days as you need over one week- designed to process painful life experiences in a safe, focused environment using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Endorsed by treatment guidelines around the world as a top trauma therapy of choice, EMDR is an evidence-based modality proven to eliminate or dramatically reduce the emotional weight of painful experiences. Will Ford, LCSW, currently offers intensives one week per month, to provide the dedicated time and support many people need to move forward in their healing.
Why Choose an Intensive?
Research shows that week-long therapy can reduce symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm with the same efficacy as standard hour-per-week therapy. Our intensives provide the focused, uninterrupted time many clients need to finally resolve past wounds still causing symptoms today. With intensives, many clients find they can make the same progress in days that might otherwise take months or longer–and with less risk of becoming destabilized in the weeks between sessions, before traumas are fully healed.
What to Expect:
If you’re interested in an intensive, we’ll first provide an hour screening, free of charge, to determine whether you’re ready for extensive trauma processing. If we determine you’re ready, we’ll estimate how many days you’ll need and get you scheduled. Each day of your intensive includes extended EMDR sessions, guided regulation practices, and time to rest and integrate at your pace as needed. You’ll work through your trauma in a safe and paced way with space to both process and stabilize.
Who Are They For?
Intensives can help almost anyone. Carrying unprocessed pain from past life experiences (whether or not these experiences meet traditional definitions of trauma) is common for people with stubborn mental health symptoms that don’t go away with therapy targeting only the present. Though our society tends to associate trauma with certain groups of people- firefighters, police officers, EMTs, soldiers, veterans, healthcare workers- processing past experiences of pain to resolution can have a transformative effect on anyone who lives with stress, anxiety, depression or other symptoms with origins in the past. And that’s almost everyone.
Getting Started:
Trauma intensives at Moonstone Wellness are offered one week per month, with limited spots available to provide the highest level of care. If you’re ready to stop carrying the weight of trauma alone and take a powerful step toward healing, we invite you to connect with us by clicking “Schedule an Initial Appointment” button below.
Our Approach:
Our trauma intensives are rooted in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy shown to be highly effective in treating trauma, as well as Flash- another modality developed by EMDR therapists in more recent years. EMDR helps the brain reprocess painful experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional weight. Alongside EMDR, and in preparation for EMDR, we use a variety of techniques from other modalities to ensure we keep you safe, supported, and grounded while working through your trauma.
Still Have Questions?
If you’re unsure whether a trauma intensive is the right fit, we’ll talk it through together in our screening. Our goal is to make sure you feel safe and supported. Keep in mind that if you receive a “no” following our screening, it’s really just a “not yet”. Moonstone will provide guidance on appropriate next steps. These typically involve additional preparation work with a therapist, either one you’re already seeing on a weekly basis, one of our own clinicians, or another trusted referral. When the preparation is complete, we’ll work with you to find the soonest available time to begin your intensive.
